| dc.description | In recent years, poultry farming has been characterized in Latin American countries by establishing large poultry companies, although it has experienced difficulties, issues affecting the sector have been developed, such as the use of antibiotics for the growth of birds. However, there are also many achievements and successes, such as the production of around 15,000 million chickens per year. (Alltech, 2013) In Ecuador, the poultry sector represents one of the most important activities in livestock activity, reaching 57% of livestock GDP. In addition, this sector contributes with about 70% of animal protein consumed by the national population in the form of meat and eggs. (Taipe. V, Leòn.V, 2007) In the first National Poultry Census, a population of 167 million birds was determined for 2007; of which 157 million are broilers (93%), 8.5 million laying. | dc.description.abstract | En los últimos años, la avicultura se ha caracterizado en los países latinoamericanos por establecer grandes empresas avícolas, aunque ha atravesado dificultades, se han ido desarrollando temas que afectan al sector, como el uso de antibióticos para el crecimiento de las aves. Sin embargo, también hay muchos logros y aciertos como por ejemplo la producción de alrededor de 15.000 millones de pollos al año. (Alltech, 2013) En el Ecuador, el sector avícola representa una de las actividades más importante en la actividad pecuaria, alcanzando el 57% del PIB pecuario. Además, este sector aporta con cerca del 70% de proteína animal consumid por la población nacional en forma de carne y huevos. (Taipe. V, Leòn.V, 2007) En el primer Censo Avícola Nacional se determinó para el año 2007 una población de 167 millones de aves; de las cuales, 157 millones son pollos de engorde (93%), 8.5 millones de postura.
