The objectives were to quantify the presence or non-presence of fruit flies in order to declare the area free of these quarantine pests and to identify the species present in the traps during the monitoring period. The research was descriptive and used quantitative and qualitative methods, 5 GPS geo-referenced traps were installed. For the monitoring, Mcphail type traps were used with a bait content of sugar cane honey diluted in water for each trap. Stereoscopic observations and photographs were taken and the samples were identified in the general microbiology laboratories of the Technical University of Cotopaxi, iNaturalist and the dichotomous keys. The results obtained after the 42 monitoring tests show that there is no presence of the pest under study in the La Cantera community. The insect diversity was calculated using the Shannon-Wiener diversity index method, giving us a result equal to 1.3 low diversity. Based on the study carried out, we can conclude that the community of La Cantera can be declared a fruit fly free zone at the moment. The presence of the house fly and hepialus humulis was mainly detected.
