- ItemAnálisis del índice de selección del programa de mejoramiento genético sostenible de bovinos de leche de la parroquia Ignacio Flores en el periodo 2023.(Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC)., 2024-08) Cajamarca Calero, Jenifer Belén; Cueva Salazar, Nancy MargothThis study was carried out in the parish of Ignacio Flores in the canton of Latacunga, province of Cotopaxi. The main objective was to analyze the selection index of the sustainable genetic improvement program for dairy cattle. Therefore, we identified the characteristics evaluated and the weights assigned to each of them, the performance of the selected characteristics, and the selection index, determining their impact on milk production and reproductive efficiency of the selected animals, to obtain results that improve the genetics of the animals in the sector. Hence, data were collected during 3 months (September, October, and November) with the participation of 58 female bovine animals including heifers, cows, and cows owned by 14 producers who are part of the project. Then, genetic improvement variables were determined, being the highest genetic values in daily weight gain for the Ploma cow with the highest daily weight gain of 59.33 g/day with a reliability of 0.51% from the owner Miguel Angel Tarco, milk production at 305 days for the Agustina cow of 479.18 lots in lactation with a reliability of 0.46% and density with the highest results for the Suca cow with 0,94 g/ml with a reliability of 0.47% from the owner Maria Dolores Condorcana. Last but not least, the cost of production was taken exclusively from the cows in production, so an average cost of 17 cents was obtained. Lastly, despite being an average cost, the average monthly profit is $149.07, compared to a basic salary of $460, which leads to the conclusion that it is not sustainable for the owner.
