The methodology included a field phase, wastewater characterization sampling was carried out to analyze the concentration of lead and aluminum before and after treatment. This process included the hydrolysis pretreatment with hydroxide partner in the chicken feathers to ensure the absorption of heavy metals and the design of the filter. An experimental design was applied, three treatments were carried out, two with different amounts of feathers 10 g, 30 g and with 5 cm of gravel in each filter and a control of only gravel to evaluate the effectiveness of gravel and feathers in the removal of heavy metals. In addition, ANOVA software was used to analyze environmental efficiency and IRR (internal rate of return) and NPV (net present value) were calculated to evaluate economic and environmental efficiency. In the water quality analysis, it was observed that the physicochemical parameters (pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, salinity and COD) were elevated due to the presence of organic matter with a COD of 3.4 g/L, aluminum with 0.32 mg/L and lead registering 0.14 mg/L in the wastewater. The treatment with 30 g feathers and 5 cm gravel showed better efficacy with a removal of approximately 98% of these metals. The porosity of the feathers contributed to the efficient design of the filters. In addition, from an economic perspective, the Internal Rate of Return analysis showed a 44% which indicates that the filter is more cost effective compared to other conventional methods and the Net Present Value was 19118.94 which suggests that the chicken feather filter offers superior performance.
