This study estimates low flows in the Paute River basin using hydrological recession analysis to characterize base flow behavior during periods of low rainfall. Daily discharge data from three INAMHI stations between 1980 and 2016 were used, applying the Bako and Owoade method to isolate the recession periods and calculate the constant K for five representative years (2003, 2005, 2010, 2012, and 2014), with an overall average of 0.836. The results were validated by comparing simulated and observed discharge data at station H0894 using the Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient; the year 2010 showed a poor fit (R² = 0.534) and was excluded from the final analysis, after which the model became more consistent. The findings confirm that the recession method is a reliable tool for estimating minimum flows in Andean-Amazonian watersheds with continuous records, and they provide useful information for water resource planning, the operation of hydroelectric infrastructure, and low-flow management on the Paute River.
