- ItemEvaluación del bienestar animal en el proyecto de cerdos del CEASA.(Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC), 2024-08) Changoluisa Chingo, Josselyn Lisseth; Andrade Aulestia, Patricia MarcelaThe following research project focuses on animal welfare, which refers to the physical and psychological state of the animal according to the environment where it lives and dies. One of the main problems with the compliance of animal welfare regulations is the lack of research carried out based on the evaluation of the indicators that intervene and affect it. For this reason, the main objective of this research was to evaluate the degree of animal welfare in pigs at the Experimental Center for Research and Development project, to improve the quality of life of the pigs. The types of production of maternity, weaning, fattening, and rearing were evaluated in two barns with 16 pigs weighing between 30 and 150 kg. Data collection was carried out through a survey of the production manager. A qualitative descriptive methodology was implemented for data analysis, using a range of (1-5) to obtain information on the areas of improvement that need to be modified to increase animal welfare. The score was analyzed based on the type of production, showing no significant difference between them, as maternity scored 4.8, weaning 4.65, fattening 4.9, and rearing 4.15. This was complemented by a literature review and its respective analysis, in order to obtain a better understanding of the research problem. By summing the scores obtained from the Five Freedoms, a general score of 9.25 was obtained, which within the range is equal to 4.63, resulting in good animal welfare.
