- ItemDeterminación de la prevalencia de giardia SPP, en caninos domésticos (canis lupus familiaris) en la parroquia San Buenaventura del cantón Latacunga.(Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC)., 2024-08) Chasi Yugcha, Karla Gissela; Cueva Salazar, Nancy MargothGiardiasis is a parasitic disease occasioned by a protozoan called Giardia lamblia, which affects the canine’s intestinal system, felines and even humans, therefore, it is considered zoonotic, thus being by relevance to public health. One the main problems for the dissemination this parasite lies in the knowledge lack from owners about the importance by deworming, regular visits to veterinary check-ups, pets proper handling, and good hygiene practices. The research main had as main aim to determine the prevalence from Giardia lamblia in canines from San Buenaventura parish, by applying a quantitative analytical observational methodology for the study, it was collected a total 70 stool samples, which were processed with the Antigen Kit immunochromatographic test for Giardia, what provided us an immediate result. For the collecting information, it was used a survey. The risk factors to analyze, they were sex, race, age, deworming, habitat and water consumption. It was got a total prevalence in the parish 21.43%. The factors, what had the greatest impact were the deworming lack, where was got 18.57% contaminated canines, followed by habitat with 17.14% and finally age, where finding 12.86% positive cases in young adult canines. The research results caused a great impact on the parish, allowing to be socialized the data and shared relevancy information on Giardia Spp.
