In Ecuador, the clear policies lack for the solid waste proper management, both plastic and organic, they aggravate this situation. For this reason, the current research project had as aim to characterize household solid waste for the elaboration a comprehensive management system in the “La Victoria” parish, Pujilí canton, Cotopaxi province. The qualitative methodology included visits fulfillment, they are maintaining with inhabitants, applying a survey that consisting 13 questions to a total 120 people to know about the waste management current situation. Also, it was made a sample 65 homes for seven days to calculate their waste production, then, through the quartering method, it was chosen a quarter part the waste, by selecting only two opposite parts for waste classification. The got results during the sampling indicated that, regarding the current situation in the parish, greater part recognize that the wastes should handle them, but they have not received talks or training about them, the garbage truck passes by infrequently and there are no recycling initiatives. The characterization is evinced, what in per capita production, 57% waste is organic origin and 43% inorganic, giving a value 0.58 kg/inhab/day. In the case of management proposal, it focuses about the generation environmental awareness, reduction in the source, community recycling, compost elaboration and by propelling the creation a municipal ordinance. It is concluded the study by indicating that, as is produced more organic waste, it is an opportunity for applying processes, such as compost and with the inorganic waste from recycling, with which can improve management in the parish.
