- ItemIdentificación de parásitos gastrointestinales en el zorro andino (lycalopex culpaeus) en la parroquia de Aláquez.(Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC)., 2024-08) Illapa Licero, Alanis Paola; Herrera Yunga, Vanessa del RosarioAs predators, foxes come into frequent contact with infections able to transfer disease to humans and other animals. Despite its ecological importance, little is known about the parasites that affect the Andean fox (Lycalopex culpaeus). The objective of the study was to identify the gastrointestinal parasites in the Andean fox of the parish of Aláquez using sedimentation, flotation, and McMaster techniques. Fecal samples were collected and analyzed in the parasitology laboratory of the Technical University of Cotopaxi. A prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites was found where a 0.11 prevalence was obtained in unspecified nematodes, 0.26 in nematode larvae, 0.17 in Uncinaria sp., 0.06 Dipylidium sp., 0.03 in Toxocara sp., 0.06 Strongyloides. We evaluated the parasite load using the McMaster camera, we found that 62.86% had a mild level, 28.57% had a moderate level and 2.86% of cases had a high level, the intensity of the infection was low in most cases. 60% were obtained in mono parasitism and 40% in biparasitism.
