- Item“Diseño y evaluación de un sistema integrado de tanque de oxidación para el tratamiento sostenible de aguas residuales del río Nambillo mediante tecnologías avanzadas de oxidación con ozono y peróxido, con implementación de biorremediación”.(Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi: (UTC), 2024-08) Iturralde Gamboa, Joel Marcelo; Yépez Guerra, Wendy Dayana; Ágreda Oña, José LuisThis research project focuses on the design and evaluation of an integrated oxidation tank system for the sustainable treatment of wastewater from the Nambillo River, located in the Parish of Mindo, San Miguel de los Bancos Canton, Pichincha Province. This region, known for its biodiversity and rich water resources, faces challenges related to water contamination due to anthropogenic activities. The main objective of the research is to develop a system that combines advanced oxidation technologies, using ozone and hydrogen peroxide, with bioremediation to improve water quality before its discharge into the environment. To achieve this objective, the project was divided into several phases, beginning with the physical, chemical, and biological characterization of the Nambillo River’s water. Based on this information, a prototype oxidation tank was designed, tailored to the specific conditions of the study site. The system was evaluated through laboratory tests and field simulations, where parameters such as the reduction of organic matter, pathogen elimination, and overall improvement of water quality were analyzed. The results demonstrated that the proposed treatment system is capable of significantly reducing contamination levels, achieving acceptable standards for the safe discharge of treated water. However, the research also identified the need to optimize certain aspects of the system’s design and operation, particularly in the dosing of reagents and the integration with bioremediation processes. Finally, the project proposes measures for large-scale implementation of the system in the region, emphasizing the importance of involving local communities in the conservation and management of water resources. It is recommended to adopt policies that promote environmental sustainability and the development of green infrastructure in sensitive areas such as Mindo. Furthermore, the need to continue complementary research to refine the system and ensure its long-term viability is underscored, thereby contributing to the preservation of natural resources and the well-being of the communities that depend on them.
