    Prevalencia de Giardia SPP en perros del cantón Saquisilí

    The identification of zoonotic diseases within Ecuador is important for the development of control programs. This research was conducted with the objective of evaluating the prevalence of Giardia spp and predisposing factors to the disease in domestic dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) in Saquisilí Canton, using the Rapid Giardia Ag Test Kit for zoonosis prevention in the study area. Eighty-one canines were randomly sampled by rectal swabbing and the Rapid Giardia Ag Test Kit was applied. Additionally, a survey was applied to the owners to know if factors such as sex, age, number of animals in the same house, deworming, and place of habitat of the canines influence the prevalence of giardiasis. A higher prevalence (11.11%) was observed in Saquisilí parish, with a greater predisposition in males (12.35%), in the 1-3 years age range (9.88%), in homes with 1-3 canines (13.38%), not dewormed (13.38%), and in animals that live outdoors (9.25%). Positive cases were represented on an epidemiological map that shows the geographical distribution of the parasite within the canton.
