The deficient genetic improvement program in dairy cattle at Mulliquindil parish Salcedo city of Salcedo, province of Cotopaxi, has led to small and medium producers to keep using traditional practices, selecting breeders without adequate technical knowledge. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the economic weights in a genetic improvement program, in order to identify the most efficient animals maximizing the profitability of cattle farms in the parish. 77 animals distributed in five neighborhoods of the parish were evaluated, 50 of them were females and 27 were males. The monthly labor cost was $1076, with a sales cost of 38 cents per liter of milk and a production cost of 67 cents per liter, resulting in a monthly loss of approximately $248. 24. The best performance in daily weight gain (DWG) was obtained by the Miel heifer with an estimated 74.6 grams. In the non-pregnant cattle category, Martina stood out with 24.6307 grams. The Arisca cow presented the best DWG in her category with 50.3967 grams. Talking about height at withers, Huerfanita was the best with a measurement of 4.6235 cm. Lucero was the most outstanding cow in milk production, with 2028.92 kg per lactation, while Mocha had the highest milk density with a maximum value of +0.246. The estimation of genetic value in dairy cattle is presented as a fundamental tool for the genetic improvement of the population, allowing to increase productivity, improve health and reduce costs. Key words: Genetic improvement, Productivity, Profitability, Milk production.
