    Protocolo de bioseguridad para el proyecto de cerdos del centro de experimentación, investigación y desarrollo.

    This research project was conducted in the Eloy Alfaro parish, Latacunga canton, Cotopaxi province. The objective was to develop a biosafety protocol for the pig project of the Experimentation, Research, and Development Center of the Technical University of Cotopaxi. A descriptive investigation was held that evaluated the facilities, income control, food management, pest control, and records. Regarding facilities, deficiencies in ventilation, footbaths, and inadequate flooring for pigs were identified, which can affect the health and well-being of the animals. Besides, problems were observed in income control, such as the lack of exclusive overalls for the personnel in charge of the porcine project. Concerning food and pest management, problems were found with the cleaning of feeders, food and medicines storage, and control of rodents and insects. Finally, the lack of records of visits and cleaning and disinfection in the swine facilities was identified. In conclusion, a checklist was established allowing the identification of deficiencies in the pig project of the Technical University of Cotopaxi. Furthermore, a biosafety brochure was created based on what Agrocalidad says according to the POE and POES regulations to minimize the risk of introduction and spread of diseases in the porcine project.
