This research was carried out with the objective of determining the prevalence of avian bronchitis in backyard poultry in the province of Cotopaxi in the rural parishes of Pujilí. It is a highly contagious viral disease that affects backyard poultry belonging to the gammacoronavirus genus, characterized by respiratory symptoms, although it can also infect the reproductive tract causing a decrease in egg production, poor shell quality and abnormalities in the internal quality of the egg, it can be nephropathogenic and cause acute nephritis and mortality, its transmission can be vertical or horizontal, causing significant economic and sanitary losses. We used 150 backyard birds taken at random from rural parishes of different ages, 74 females and 25 males. We used the indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA-i) for the population detection of birds that present antibodies to the disease, for which blood samples were taken from the birds, obtained directly from the brachial vein and transported in red cap vacutainer tubes without anticoagulant to the laboratory for the extraction of blood serum. The results showed 99 positive cases and 51 negative cases. Based on the results obtained, a prevalence of 66% was obtained in the rural parishes of Pujilí canton. For the analysis of the associated factors and the positive cases detected in the study area, we used the analysis of the positive cases. For the analysis of the associated factors and the positive cases detected in the study area, the chi-square statistical analysis was used, obtaining that there is an association between the factors age, lodging and place with the positive cases. With this information, an epidemiological map was drawn up with the positive cases within each rural parish.
