This study aimed to determine the prevalence of mycoplasmosis and its predisposing factors in backyard pigs in La Maná canton, Ecuador, to achieve effective disease management and improve production performance. Serum samples from 150 backyard pigs distributed across the parishes of La Maná canton were analyzed using an indirect ELISA test. The prevalence of the disease was calculated based on the study variables, and the Chi-squared test was used as a statistical tool to determine the influence of these variables on the disease. The results indicated a prevalence of 94.05% in El Carmen parish and 100% in Guasaganda parish. Predisposing factors such as sex, with a p-value of 0.019; feeding, with a p-value of 0.008; and sanitation, with a p-value of 0.000, demonstrated a significant difference between the study variables and the disease caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae. Areas with the highest incidence of mycoplasmosis were identified through the creation of an epidemiological map. This will facilitate the implementation of control and prevention measures, such as vaccination programs and improvements in sanitary management practices. The results of this study are expected not only to provide valuable information about the health status of backyard pigs in La Maná canton, but also to contribute to the knowledge of small-scale pig farmers about the importance of biosecurity and the proper management of their animals.
