- ItemPrevalencia de bronquitis infecciosa en aves de traspatio en el cantón La Maná, provincia de Cotopaxi.(Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC)., 2024-08) Sánchez Pitaguiña, Estefanía Alexandra; Toro Molina, Blanca MercedesAvian infectious bronchitis is a disease that affects birds of all ages; it has easy dissemination and low mortality, affecting small and large-scale poultry systems. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of bronchitis and predisposing factors to the disease in backyard poultry in Canton La Maná. Samples were taken from 152 birds from the San Cristóbal, Juan Cobo, San Cristóbal and Juan Cobo, Salento, Cooperativa Guasaganda, San Antonio de Guasaganda, La Florida, Pucayacu, and La Argentina enclosures, and through the indirect Elisa diagnostic test for the detection of antibodies to the disease, it was determined the prevalence for avian infectious bronchitis. Likewise, the implementation of a survey considered the predisposing factors for the disease, such as sex, age, vaccination, and the way the birds were acquired. The results obtained from the survey mentioned that hens predominate over roosters in the enclosures, the unvaccinated birds showed a prevalence of 52.63% compared to 20.40% of positive cases, birds older than 24 weeks of age presented a prevalence of 46.71%. In the study, a prevalence of 69.07% was obtained with respect to the backyard poultry evaluated. Small producers do not have knowledge about how the disease acts and the influence it has on the birds' organism, affecting egg quality, decreasing body condition, and, in susceptible birds, causing death, this lack of knowledge contributes to the spread of the disease and increases the percentage of positive cases.
