- ItemAnálisis del índice de selección del programa de mejoramiento genético sostenible en bovinos de leche de la parroquia Mulalillo(Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC)., 2024-08) Sigcha Tutin, Jonathan Rolando; Simancas Racines, Alison CristinaThe present research was carried out with the objective of analyzing the selection index of the sustainable genetic improvement program for dairy cattle of the Mulalillo parish, as well as to evaluate the performance of the selected and weighted characteristics in the selection index, determining its impact on milk production and reproductive efficiency of the selected animals. For this purpose, a data collection of each individual registered in the project was carried out, data that correspond to the characters to be evaluated (daily weight gain, milk production, density, and height at the withers). With this information the genetic value (EBV) and the response to selection (RS) of each individual was obtained, thus obtaining the best individuals for the daily weight gain trait corresponding to the following categories; Cows: White 39.91 g/day; 113.61 g/day. Heifers: Victoria 41.47 g/day; 115.76 g/day. Calves: Lucho 37.84 g/day; 112.14 g/day. As a second objective, to identify the main strengths and weaknesses of the selection index using the sustainable genetic improvement program for dairy cattle of the Mulalillo parish, proposing possible adjustments or improvements for its future application, with the results obtained after the statistical analysis of the information and the database, it was determined that the main strength of the parish corresponds to the height at the withers character because it presented a positive value of response to the selection, (cows: 113.84 cm at the withers, 113.84 cm at the withers, 113.84 cm at the withers, 113.84 cm at the withers, 113.84 cm at the withers, 113.84 cm at the withers): 113.84 cm/a withers, calves: 105.58 cm/a withers, heifers: 108.59), being so that the characters, weight gain, (cows: 67.92 gr/day, calves: 81.01 gr/day, heifers: 80.70 gr/day) milk production (579.82 kg/lactation) and milk density (1.02 gr/ml), are categorized as the main weaknesses of the parish, the values obtained are not adequate compared to the ideal value. The last objective was to carry out a cost-benefit analysis of the sustainable genetic improvement program for dairy cattle. To achieve this objective, data was collected on the production costs of all the cattle farms registered in the project, thus obtaining a database with the production costs and liters of milk generated monthly by each farm, with this information the average production cost of the entire Mulalillo parish was obtained, which was $0.09 for liter of milk.
