- Item“Análisis espacial multicriterio para la localización del relleno sanitario en el cantón Mejía, provincia Pichincha, año 2024”.(Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi: (UTC), 2024-08) Mendaño Ullco, Mario Danilo; Socasi Andrango, Dayana Liseth; Velastegui Tapia, Vincent BenjamínABSTRACT In the current research, it was made a multi-criteria spatial analysis to locate suitable sites for the implementation a sanitary landfill for the Mejía canton. Its aims were to identify areas, where there are feasible the design and construction a sanitary landfill, the required area taking into account the per capita population and maximum capacity for the solid waste reception, and for selecting the ideal site for the same construction. It was established an accompanied qualitative approach by the multi-criteria analysis method using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to determine optimal sites for construction. It was taken into account the established criteria in VI Book, 6 Annex from TULSMA for the non-hazardous solid waste management, where are mentioned the parameters required for its final disposal. The shapefiles were got from public Geoportals and were processed by means ArcGIS 10.8 by using tools such as: Multiple Ring Buffer, Intersec (Geoprocessing), Plygon to Raster, Reclassify and Weighted Overlay. As a result, it was got five optimal sites, three from sites have with an 8 hectares area and the two remaining with a greater area than 15 ha, the got result in the made calculations for the projection from the future population to 15 years, it was 148,207 inhabitants, which was taken into consideration to calculate the hectares number for the sanitary landfill, giving in a total 15 hectares, after a more detailed analysis was identified two optimal sites, what meet the necessary conditions for a sanitary landfill implementation, site No. 1 is located in the Aloasí parish, Aychapicho sector, and site No. 2 is located in the Machachi parish, Puichig sector. These sites were considered essentially, because they have with a great area than 15 hectares, which is essential for the project viability, for this reason, what was excluded the other three sites, since they have an 8 hectares area, what made them unsuitable for establishing an efficient and sustainable waste management solution. It can be concluded, what the geographic information system does not only optimizes site selection by integrating diverse variables into a single analysis, but also contributes to more efficient and sustainable planning for waste management in the canton
