    Prevalencia de giardia spp, en caninos domésticos en las parroquias Canchagua y Cochapamba del canton Saquisili.

    The present study entitled “Prevalence of Giardia spp. in domestic canines in the parishes of Canchagua and Cochapamba of Saquisili Canton” aims to determine the prevalence of this parasitosis in canines in two rural localities of Ecuador. The research was carried out by collecting and analyzing random samples from 100 canines where fresh feces were used for analysis using rapid detection kits for Giardia spp. The results reveal a prevalence of 16% in Canchagua and 20% in Cochapamba, highlighting differences in the prevalence of infection according to factors such as sex, age and living conditions of the animals with respect to the associated factors we have that the evaluation of the prevalence of giardiasis in domestic canines, several associated factors were identified. Males showed a higher prevalence of infection (16%) compared to females (4%). Young canines (1-3 years) showed a prevalence of 12%, decreasing with age. Households with fewer animals tended to have a higher prevalence. Frequency of water change and regular deworming also played a role, with lower prevalence in dewormed canines with more frequent water changes. These results highlight the importance of sanitary management in the prevention of Giardia spp. The study emphasizes the importance of regular deworming and improving hygiene and sanitation conditions to reduce the prevalence of Giardia spp. in canines.
