- ItemEfecto de la genética y sexo sobre la línea de crecimiento y parámetros productivos en cuyes a partir del destete.(Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC)., 2024-08) Toapaxi Chicaiza, Nelly Rocio; Chicaiza Sánchez, Luis AlonsoThe guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) is one of the economic representations of some areas; these animals are very important for the role of each of the rural families in Ecuador. This present research was carried out in the province of Cotopaxi, at the Salache Experimental and Academic Center (CEASA) in the guinea pig improvement projects. The research aims to evaluate the genetic and sex characteristics by taking the parameters of body and back length, thoracic perimeter, and weight of the animals of the two genetic lines. The evaluation of different parameters showed that alfalfa food consumption was similar for all animals. Differences were obtained between the two genetic lines that presented weight gains of 0.8 pounds in females and 1,025 pounds in males, and the characteristics varied in males. and females. The weights of the males are always higher than the weights of the females. 20 guinea pigs were worked, in which 10 between males and females from CEASA and 10 between males and females from Constantino Fernández (Ambato), it began with the identification of each of them for registration, and the earring was carried out for their identification. Subsequently, weight gain, body and loin length measurements, and chest circumference were recorded each week, and food consumption was measured each day. All this research is related to be well directed in guinea pig breeding production since profitability may be possible depending on the choice of genetic line to maximize the economic benefits in production.
