(Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC), 2024-08) Soria Guerrero, Pamela Cristina; Toro Molina. Blanca Mercedes
The objective of this research report was to evaluate the prevalence of Bronchitis and predisposing factors to the disease in backyard poultry in Sigchos, Cotopaxi province, for an effective sanitary management. For this purpose, the prevalence of Bronchitis in backyard poultry in Sigchos Canton was determined using the indirect Elisa method. The project used a descriptive cross-sectional design. The purpose of this study was to estimate the distribution of the disease, in this case Avian Infectious Bronchitis, according to a dependent variable (sex and age) at a given time. A bibliographic review was carried out in order to express a real and current assessment of the epizootiological situation and the prevalence of the diseases, as well as the main events that preceded the study period. 27 people participated as respondents. The survey was applied in the parishes of Sigchos district, such as Sigchos, Insiliví, Palo Quemado, Chugchilán, and Las Pampas. A total of 157 blood samples were collected from backyard poultry. The serum was obtained from the coagulation tube and placed in a micro centrifuge tube and frozen at a temperature of -10°C to -40°C. The reagents had to reach a temperature of -10°C to -40°C. The reagents had to reach a temperature of 18°-26°C before use. The reagents had to be mixed by inverting or gently shaking them. The results of the collection and analysis of blood plasma in backyard poultry were obtained by identifying the prevalence of Avian Infectious Bronchitis. The evaluation of 157 backyard poultry between females and males with ages ranging from 7 to 12 weeks, 13 to 18 weeks, and 19 to 24 weeks, in the province of Cotopaxi, Sigchos district, was carried out. It allowed the detection of 157 positive cases, by means of ELISA test. Currently in Ecuador, competitive ELISA is the only serological test using the IDEXX IBV Ab test kit.
