(Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC). Ciencias de la Ingeniería y Aplicadas. Industrial, 2026-10-14) Berrazueta Salguero, Andres Sebastián; Cordero Saquinga, Christian Marcelo; Andrango Guayasamín, Raúl Heriberto
This research addresses the operational inefficiency in monitoring and tracking vaccination schedules at the Sira Pets veterinary clinic (Rumiñahui canton), caused by manual processes that lead to appointment absenteeism and administrative overload. The main objective was to design an automated system for comprehensive vaccination management. The methodology applied a mixed-methods approach with a descriptive-propose scope under the Kaizen philosophy, executed in three stages: process diagnosis, software architecture design, and validation through a functional prototype. The diagnosis revealed a 36% dissatisfaction rate regarding record updates and a notification coverage of only 30%. To solve this issue, a Python web application was developed using Streamlit, structured into three layers (operational, analytical, and predictive). The tool integrated transactional data processing with an interactive notification module via Gmail SMTP, an immutable accounting stock registry, and a Random Forest predictive model ($k=5$) to estimate the risk of non-compliance with the vaccination schedule. The pilot test demonstrated that the system reduces reminder management time from 3–5 minutes to under 5 seconds per transaction, achieving 100% coverage for patients due within 30 days. Additionally, the predictive model reached an overall accuracy of 83%, operating as a Decision Support System (DSS) for the veterinary staff. In conclusion, automation optimizes sanitary traceability, enhances customer service, and eliminates manual data entry errors without incurring software licensing costs.

(Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC). Ciencias de la Ingeniería y Aplicadas. Industrial, 2026-10-14) Alcocer Quishpi, Liliana Maricela; Campos Changoluisa, Kevin Ismael; Eugenio Pilliza, Cristian Iván
The objective of this research work is to develop an inventory management system to improve the tracking, monitoring, and control of product inflows and outflows, thereby ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for decision making; the research was carried out at "CONDIMENTOS JV" company, located in city of Quito, which relies on an inventory management system based on the implicit knowledge of its staff, utilising manual records, lacking warehouse coding, and exercising no control over product consumption, thereby leading to operational disorganisation and the risk of stockouts. Faced with this problem, an initial diagnosis of the current situation was conducted using checklists based on 5S methodology and ARCSA sanitary regulations, revealing an incipient implementation level of 63.6% in order and cleanliness, alongside a 50% non-compliance rate with sanitary standards. Subsequently, an ABC methodology was applied to 104 products in the portfolio, identifying 18 Category A items that account for 79.6% of the total inventory value, upon which the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), Reorder Point (ROP), and Safety Stock models were applied to optimise replenishment. Using a weighted criteria method, Google Sheets enhanced with AppSheet was selected as the most suitable digital tool, scoring 4.35 out of 5. The proposal integrates an inventory control and management policy that achieved an 81.7% reduction in recording times and a 79.2% reduction in search times, whilst also decreasing recording errors from 25% to 5% and increasing staff productivity, thereby fulfilling the stated research objective.

The study addressed the limitations of clinical information management at SIRA PETS Veterinary Clinic, which were characterized by scattered and non-standardized records that hindered access to patient history and the identification of recurrent diseases. Its objective was to design an intelligent machine learning-based model to predict canine diseases and improve the care process. A quantitative approach was applied through retrospective document review, observation, data cleaning, Pareto analysis, and supervised classification. The population comprised 500 canine clinical records; 396 records corresponding to the seven most frequent diseases were selected, representing 79.2% of the total. Twenty-five demographic and pre-diagnostic clinical variables were used, and five-fold stratified cross-validation was applied. The J48 decision tree, Random Forest, Naive Bayes, and support vector machine algorithms with a radial basis function kernel were compared using classification metrics. Random Forest achieved the best performance, with an accuracy of 0.9368 and a weighted F1-score of 0.9328. The functional test conducted with 72 additional cases generated predictions for the seven diseases and showed an initial agreement of 88.89% with veterinary judgment; this constituted an initial functional validation rather than an external clinical validation. As an improvement proposal, a standardized clinical record form and a dashboard developed in Streamlit were integrated to organize data entry, generate advisory predictions, and support veterinary assessment without replacing professional judgment. In addition, the proposal made it possible to estimate the percentage improvement in the care process by comparing the current process with the proposed process.

The research project addressed the issues of operational inefficiency and administrative informality, using a company in the industrial sector in the canton of Latacunga as a case study, where financial losses were identified due to uncontrolled stock levels, a lack of standardized processes and the absence of a systematic approach to sustainability. In light of this situation, the overall objective was to design a quality management system with a corporate social responsibility focus to strengthen organizational sustainability. The methodology implemented in the study was developed using a mixed-methods approach, with a descriptive-diagnostic scope, a non-experimental design and a cross-sectional structure. A stratified sample of 150 stakeholders was selected. The methods and tools included a diagnostic gap analysis based on the ISO 9001:2015 standard, an assessment of the core subjects of the ISO 26000:2010 guidance, physical inspections using the 5S methodology, process mapping using the SIPOC model, inventory classification using the ABC method, Likert-scale questionnaires, and mathematical modelling of the economic order quantity and reorder point. The results showed a critical level of regulatory compliance of just 23 per cent with regard to ISO 9001:2015, an accuracy rate of 68.4 per cent in stock records, and a score of 1.2 out of 5.0 in the 5S assessment. On this basis, the technology team developed a comprehensive plan based on the Deming cycle. A layout redesign was proposed using the FIFO methodology, anticipating a 35 per cent reduction in dispatch times; mathematical models for stock control were established for the 18 per cent of products with the highest turnover; parameters were defined for the implementation of an ERP system; and a hybrid balanced scorecard was designed that combined operational indicators with socio-environmental metrics. The implementation budget was set at USD 3,920.00, with a projected payback period of between 7 and 9 months. It was concluded that technical control and operational standardization formed the fundamental basis for the viability of sustainability practices, helping to mitigate process variability and strengthen organizational resilience.

The purpose of this study was to propose the redesign of the production and storage areas of the metalworking company INMECH to improve production flow through the comparison of plant layout methods. The methodology was developed in four stages: first, the current situation of the company was diagnosed through direct observation and field data collection; second, the production processes and processing times were analyzed using analytical diagrams; third, a redesign proposal was developed and compared by applying the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP), CRAFT, and CORELAP methods, with the final alternative selected using a weighted criteria method; and fourth, the economic feasibility of the selected proposal was evaluated through the calculation of Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). Results revealed that the current layout did not follow the sequence of the production process, with painting and assembly identified as the main bottlenecks. The SLP alternative achieved the highest weighted score (3.90 out of 5, compared to 3.35 for CORELAP and 3.10 for CRAFT), reducing the internal material flow by an expected 42% (from 85 m to 49 m) without relocating high-cost fixed equipment. The economic evaluation yielded a positive NPV of USD 774.10 and an annual IRR of 14.48%, exceeding the discount rate applied. It was concluded that the redesign proposal improves the production flow of INMECH and is economically viable for implementation.
