- ItemEvaluación de los pesos económicos en el índice de selección del programa de mejoramiento genético sostenible de bovinos de leche del cantón Pujilí(Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC)., 2024-08) Inga Aguaiza, Grace Tatiana; Pérez Paredes, Shirley Vanessa; Molina Cuasapaz, Edie GabrielIn Cotopaxi province, Pujilí canton, San Isidro, and Cochaloma sectors, poor management and lack of phenotypic and genotypic information about bovine cattle have made it challenging for farmers to estimate the genetic value of their animals. Therefore, a genetic improvement program was implemented to determine the total genetic merit index through a descriptive observational study. The results showed that the average production cost was $0.32 per liter of milk, while the average selling price was $0.39 per liter, yielding $111.9 in monthly profits. Additionally, the genetic merit index for daily weight gain was 284 grams, with Evelin standing out at 311.09 grams per day. The average milk production in the sectors was 2241.02 kg per day, with Manuelita being the best performer at 3136.772 kg per day. Regarding average density, it was 1.024 g/ml, with Manzanita leading at 1.025 g/ml. The phenotypic analysis suggested that the genetic improvement goal for weight gain would be achieved in the fourth generation, with an expected daily gain of 700 grams. Milk production is projected to reach its goal in the fifth generation, producing an estimated 5000 kg per cow annually. Improvement in milk density, due to its low heritability, is expected to be achieved in the fourth generation.
