    La nutrición como elemento fundamental para el desarrollo intelectual de los niños y niñas de la ´escuela fiscal mixta Inés Gangotena Jijón del barrio Mushuñan, Sangolquí, provincia Pichincha, período 2004-2005

    Since nutrition is a vital necessity for man, the research group, aware of the importance of good nutrition, especially during school age, and of the influence of nutrition on the intellectual development of children, which is reflected in their academic performance, has developed the thesis topic on: “Nutrition as a Fundamental Element for the Intellectual Development of Boys and Girls of the “Inés Gangotena Jijón Mixed Public School” in the Mushuñan Neighborhood, Sangolquí, Pichincha Province, Period 2004-2005”. This research has been carried out as a demonstrative example of the reality of the problem faced by school children in our country, who for different reasons do not have good nutrition; the indicated situation is aggravated by bad hygiene habits and poor sanitary infrastructure, which do not allow children to develop properly. The research work consists of three chapters, as indicated below: Chapter I Theoretical or Reference Framework. - This chapter has served as a scientific basis for our research, since it contains important concepts and topics on child nutrition and feeding, nutritious foods that substitute meat, milk, eggs, and others that provide nutrients such as corn, bananas, beans, chocolate, soy, oats, in easy preparations, within the reach of the family economy. In addition, we find topics on intellectual development of school-aged children, intelligence development, school maturity and determining factors. Chapter II Presentation, Analysis and Interpretation of Results. - In this chapter we present the School where our research work was carried out, based on surveys of children and parents about nutrition, and teachers about school development; there are also results of anthropometric measurements, laboratory tests related to parasites, anemia and infections in children, assessed by Dr. Jorge Oscullo, and the results of the test applied by Nancy Oña to measure the IQ of children. We present the verification of the Hypothesis: balanced diets with nutritious foods available in the local area improve the intellectual development of the boys and girls of the “Escuela Fiscal Mixta Inés Gangotena Jijón”. Chapter III Proposal. - The proposal has the purpose of trying to provoke a change of attitude in the nutritional aspect in the family environment, towards the improvement of intellectual development that translates into academic performance, supported by the “Contribution to the improvement of the intellectual development of the boys and girls of the “Escuela Fiscal Mixta Inés Gangotena Jijón” through good nutritional practices”. To achieve this purpose we have worked with the three groups immersed in the subject such as: The boys and girls, to whom we have given lectures on Health and Nutrition, by the doctor. Parents participated in conferences on Health and Nutrition, workshops on preparing nutritious recipes and an “Open House” where recipes were presented and some nutritious foods were served to the general public. Finally, the work was carried out with the support and coordination of the School Director.
