Abstract
La leucemia felina es una enfermedad viral transmitida por el virus de la leucemia felina (ViLeF) siendo una de las más frecuentes debido a su transmisión por contacto directo con las secreciones que contengan partículas del virus. El objetivo del proyecto fue determinar la prevalencia de leucemia viral felina en los gatos domésticos del cantón Pujilí. El estudio se realizó en 103 felinos domésticos (Felis silvestris catus)) donde se aplicó pruebas rápidas de inmunocromatográfica del virus ViLeF, tomando muestras de sangre distribuidas de 3 a 2 test por barrio. Se realizó una encuesta a los propietarios de los gatos sobre los factores de riesgo. Se obtuvo una prevalencia total del 19,42 % de gatos que padecen la enfermedad. No se encontró asociación entre los factores de riesgo, con la enfermedad mediante la prueba estadística chi-cuadrado, al no existir diferencia significativa entre los factores de riesgo y la enfermedad. Mediante un mapa epidemiológico se logró identificar los barrios que presentaron casos positivos. Se socializaron los resultados con los propietarios y se entregó un tríptico el cual permitió dar a conocer el cuidado de un gato portador del virus ViLeF, y a su vez como prevenir la transmisión de la enfermedad.

Feline leukemia is a viral disease transmitted by the feline leukemia virus (ViLeF) and is one of the most frequent due to its transmission by direct contact with secretions containing virus particles. The objective of the project was to determine the prevalence of feline viral leukemia in domestic cats in the Pujilí canton. The study was carried out in 103 domestic felines (Felis silvestris catus) where rapid immunochromatographic tests for the ViLeF virus were applied, taking blood samples distributed in 3 to 2 tests per neighborhood. A survey of cat owners on risk factors was carried out. A total prevalence of 19.42 % of cats with the disease was obtained. No association was found between the risk factors and the disease by means of the chi-square statistical test, since there was no significant difference between the risk factors and the disease. An epidemiological map was used to identify the neighborhoods with positive cases. The results were socialized with the owners and a triptych was handed out to inform them about the care of a cat carrying the ViLeF virus and how to prevent the transmission of the disease.
