Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of three biostimulants (seaweed extract, humic acids, and fulvic acids), applied at three different doses, on the growth of capulí (Prunus serotina) plants established at the Salache Campus of the Technical University of Cotopaxi. The research addressed the need to generate technical information on management alternatives that contribute to the initial development of this forest and fruit species, which is important for the Andean region of Ecuador. A completely randomized block design with a 3 × 3 factorial arrangement and three replications was used, evaluating nine treatments corresponding to the combination of biostimulants and application rates. The variables analyzed were plant height, number of shoots, and cost-benefit ratio. The data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance and comparison of means using Tukey’s test at a 5% significance level, using InfoStat software. The results showed that, for the height variable, there were no statistically significant differences among treatments during the evaluations conducted at 0, 15, 30, and 45 days (p > 0.05). For the number of shoots variable, significant differences were observed only between biostimulants at 15 days, while no statistically significant differences were detected in subsequent evaluations. Although some treatments showed higher average growth rates, these did not represent significant advantages over the others. In the cost-benefit analysis, treatment T2 (seaweed extract + 2 ml/l) had the most favorable value (B/C = 1.57), while treatment T9 (fulvic acids + 4 ml/l) had the lowest cost-effectiveness (B/C = 0.95). It is concluded that, under the conditions in which the trial was conducted, the biostimulants evaluated did not significantly alter the growth of capulí during the experimental period; therefore, it is recommended to conduct longer-term evaluations under different agronomic management conditions.
