Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is a very important cereal worldwide due to its high consumption by humans and animals. In Ecuador, this crop is crucial to the economic livelihood of farmers. However, drought—a consequence of climate change—has become a limiting factor in the production of this cereal. The objective of this study was to evaluate the drought tolerance of the new wheat variety (Triticum aestivum L.) INIAP YURAK 2024 in two soil types (loam and sandy) and four soil moisture levels under greenhouse conditions. Eight treatments with four replicates were evaluated using a split-plot design, resulting in a total of 32 experimental units. The variables evaluated were: days to heading, plant height, spike length, number of grains per spike, number of tillers, number of spikes, dry matter weight, spike weight, grain type and color, yield, and yield loss. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using InfoStat software. The assumptions of normality and homogeneity of variances were first verified using the Shapiro-Wilk and Levene tests; analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed, followed by Tukey’s test at the 5% level and Fisher’s LSD test. The results showed that soil type did not significantly influence plant height and yield of the INIAP-YURAK 2024 variety. It is concluded that the variety adapted well to both loam and sandy soils; however, adequate water availability is essential for achieving better agronomic and yield performance.
