Abstract
Description
Sustainability is a dynamic and multi-criteria concept, which attempts to maintain environmental quality, social integrity, and a viable and equitable economy over time. The objectives were: to determine the living conditions at the household level with quinoa production systems in the Ecuadorian Andes, to identify the dynamics of environmental and social indicators of quinoa production systems in the Ecuadorian Andes, and to design a field school model on the management of environmental and social indicators with unacceptable performance scores. Carried out in the parishes of Columbe and Sicalpa in the province of Chimborazo. The methodology consisted of the principles of livelihoods based on the theory of capital, and the principles of sustainability assessment for agriculture and food (SAFA). Due to territorial complexity, the snowball sampling technique was used; 63 surveys were conducted, and KoboToolbox was used to collect the data. 58% of heads of household were women, the average age of male heads of household was 52.77 years, the language most spoken by indigenous people is Quechua, which corresponds to 80.95%, the exchange of seeds corresponds to 6.31%. The environmental indicator, soil quality was in the good category with 3.27%, the limited scores in environmental and social sustainability were: materials and energy and decent livelihood with 2.32% and 1.62% respectively, this allowed to know the existing deficiency, with this arose the implementation of the Agricultural Field School (ECAs) to strengthen the evaluated indicators.
